Birds in the City
This compilation of videos comes from a fun little dive into my iphone. It's a little homage to my love of the beach, fountains and animal watching. Am captivated (and sometimes dismayed) at how they’ve adapted into the urban environment, and enjoy their quirky portrayals in sculptural effects. Never gets old, and brings me a much needed dose of pleasure and amusement.
Locations, all in Melbourne

Jia Jia Chen is a ceramic artist working across art, design and food. Her practice provides a holding place for exploring themes of location, material history and how objects can embody personal narratives and aesthetic pleasure. Merging and re-interpreting iconic symbols into new and personal expressions whilst alluding to complex histories of cultural and economic exchange. And she frequently undertakes collaborative projects for creative rewards that interdisciplinary exchange and connection can generate. She is one half of ‘Fluff Corp’ with Claire Lehmann, a ceramics partnership that facilitates engagement with clay in social, community building and public events. They have staged and participated in several Design Week exhibitions and maintain a range of ceramic activities, to delve into the medium's relationship to food and design. Chen graduated Master’s of Contemporary Art at VCA 2020 and was the recipient of the Art150 Fellowship. Her work has been acquired by the City of Melbourne Art and heritage collection and she has been commissioned by Speak Percussion, Sophia Brous and Danielle Brustman.
