Sebastian DewhurstWhat’s left,
when there’s really not much left at all

Walking the final section of the former Moonee Ponds Creek Stormwater Drain in Travancore. The creek, which for millenia consisted of ponds connected by narrow creek beds, was denuded of vegetation after European invasion and straightened to facilitate industry. Later its length was concreted to mitigate flooding and improved drainage. Although now devoid of native vegetation, the smooth concrete surface makes an attractive cycle path. The final section shown in this video is crowned by the massive public installation the Melbourne International Gateway, constructed in 2000 to a design by Denton Cooker and Marshal as part of the Citylink freeway upgrade.
